The Freshpet Blog
Last month, we introduced Freshpet TV celebrity Beacon, the Boston Terrier. He was a rambunctious pup with a huge heart and was a blast to have on set.
But lovable fur-kids come in all different shapes and sizes. That being said, we couldn’t wait to introduce the beautiful Muneca, an elegant Weimaraner with gorgeous blue eyes. Let’s just say she turned heads when filming!
Trainer’s Name: Kevin and Alexandra
Where She Lives: Linden, NJ
How did you end up in Alexandra’s family? Well, I’m actually from Bogota, Colombia originally – muy bueno! My name, Muneca, is Spanish for “doll.” My Mom said she named me that because she thinks I’m pretty! Alexandra and Kevin adopted me when I was a puppy and brought me back to the States. It’s been amazing being part of such a loving family.
What Kind of Pup Were You? I think we all realized early on that I had Weimaraner hunting instincts. When Mom brought me to the lake for the first time, I was terrified to go in the water. I’d never swam before and it looked so scary. I wouldn’t even go fetch my favorite ball in that lake. But then I spotted some geese and when they fled to the water, I dove right in after them. I’ve been chasing balls into the water ever since!
Where Do You Sleep At Home? Lucky for me, I have two beds. Things are pretty comfortable at home. One bed is upstairs and the other downstairs. On chilly nights, Mom even gives me a blanket to snuggle under. Girl’s got to have her beauty sleep, right?
You Were Pretty Comfortable In Front of the Camera. Have You Done This Before? Don’t make me blush! I have done this a few times actually. Mom helped me get a part in a Mercedes-Benz commercial. I’ve also been featured on Gilt.com and worked with Nordstrom. But this Freshpet commercial was my favorite because I love their food, it’s the best! Plus I can’t drive a car so Mercedes was different
What’s A Typical Day Like? I wake up early and fly down the stairs to chow down on my Freshpet. After I’ve stuffed myself, a quick nap ties me over until the rest of the family is awake. Mom takes me for a morning walk and then we play Frisbee – I love the Frisbee! It helps me stay in shape. While everyone is working, I wait by the door for them to get back and play with me. When they come home I wag my tail like you wouldn’t believe!

Everyday, there are amazing pet lovers and pet parents doing remarkable things to help rescue pups and kitties around the world.
Here at Freshpet, we believe that every pet deserves a great home. That’s why we donate thousands of pounds of dog food each year to local animal shelters. However, it’s the shelter volunteers, employees and friends that are the real heroes.
So when Kathy sent us the following story about a furball in need, we couldn’t help but share. Have your Kleenex handy!
I have no name, or past history, or a home. I came to the shelter and was sick with respiratory issues. After I got well, I now am at Petco – Oak Lawn, IL awaiting for a forever family to find me. But I didn’t want to eat. You would think in a pet store there would be something I liked. Nope… none of the expensive food, the grocery food, nothing! But then Aunt Kathy from the shepherd rescue came in and the Petco folks asked if she could figure out what I might want to eat. She looked at me and saw how skinny I was and just had no interest in life. She talked to me, let me smell her cologne, and then held me as we walked around the store. As we walked through the store a big refrigerator caught our eyes. Aunt Kathy took a bag of Freshpet Vital Complete Meals for cats to see if it worked. We went back to my bungalow and she put a plate out and poured some food. I took a couple sniffs and started to eat. The Petco staff hugged Aunt Kathy and they were full of tears. They told Aunt Kathy that she was the best at figuring out how to get cats to eat. So see the two pictures… one is me enjoying the Freshpet cat food, that smells like chicken salad, and the other is me feeling better, hanging out in the office.
Yes, I still need a name and a home. But now that I’m eating, feeling better and gaining weight, I hope that someone will come take me home with them soon.
We’re so glad our food could help this little one grow strong again. It’s stories like these that make us at Freshpet melt and we’re so pleased when they’re shared with us.
Hopefully this little furball finds a home soon enough – it would be a purrrrfect ending to this story!
Got a Freshpet story to share? Let us know how Freshpet food has made a difference in your fur-kids life!
But now, we’re so excited to introduce one of Jackson’s co-stars and a Freshpet favorite: Beacon! She packs a lot of love for a small pooch and has really made an impression.
Mom’s Name: Laura
Trainer’s Name: Laura
Breed: Boston Terrier
Where She Lives: Hastings-on-Hudson, NY
Favorite Food: Freshpet Vital Bison & Beef
How did you and your Mom (Laura) end up together? Originally I was going to be bred and have a whole bunch of puppies, but I’m a little too bite-size and they wanted a bigger dog. So I was sold to my Mom at a “bargain basement” price – I was a steal she says! I couldn’t have been luckier to end up here.
What Kind of Pup Were You? If you ask Mom, I certainly wouldn’t have made a good mailman. I used to jump up on the dining room table and look out the front window when Mom and Dad weren’t home. I couldn’t resist shredding the mail they left there – it was too easy! One time, I even tore up a $20 bill that was left near the mail- not my best move. Luckily they weren’t mad, but I haven’t seen too many dollar bills left out since then.
Can You Tell Us A Bit About Your Family? They’re the greatest. My sister, Paris, is three years older than me. She’s a Jack Russell / Boston Terrier mix who came from a shelter. She’s the smartest dog I know and also my role model. I follow her everywhere and learn my tricks from her. My Mom and Dad are so affectionate towards me – I’m spoiled. I get to sleep in the middle of their bed sometimes which is such a treat.
Speaking of Tricks, What’s Your Best One? Well, it’s not really a trick, but I am Therapy Dogs International (TDI) certified. My Mom and I visit hospice patients every Saturday morning. I sit on the patient’s lap or lie on their bed with them and do my best to make them smile.
If You Weren’t A Dog, Who Would You Be? My parents call me Monkey a lot because I love to bounce around the house, hop up on things and make funny noises. I’ve got a lot of energy. So I think either Curious George or Donkey Kong.
Are You Used To Celebrity Status? Don’t make me blush! I’ve only done one other TV spot – the Polka Dog Bakery for Target. It was awesome, but I loved the Freshpet one because we got lots of their food on set!
What’s a Day In the Life of Beacon Like? Mom loves to do Yoga in the morning, so Paris and I hang with her until she’s done. Then we head downstairs for breakfast – Freshpet to start our day! On weekdays, we go to Buddy’s Barking Lot (daycare) while our parents go work in some place called Manhattan. When we get home, Paris and I love to play tug-of-war or tennis ball before dinner. After we’ve stuffed ourselves, it’s back to the couch to watch TV with Mom and Dad.
Hope you and your patriotic pets had a great Fourth!
We are so excited about the overwhelming number of entries, photos and comments we received from all of our Freshpet parents. We are proud to see so many pups and kitties unite for fresh meats and veggies farmed in the U.S.A. like those in Freshpet food and treats.
Before we announce the winners, we’ve got some great news. At the beginning of our United for Fresh contest we promised to donate a package of fresh food or treats to shelters and rescues in need. With so many creative red, white and blue entries, you’ve inspired us to give a bit more. We’re thrilled to share that we’ll be donating 1,000 packages of fresh food and treats as a thank you for all of your participation. Thanks to you and your furries, dogs and cats in need will also enjoy fresh, real food with ingredients farmed right here at home!
Now, to the winners…
Each of the four United for Fresh contest winners will receive a one year supply of Freshpet. You, the Freshpet community, voted on your favorite Facebook and website entries while the Freshpet team picked their two favorites as well.
Here they are – paws up for our Four Fathers of Fresh:
Buster and pet-parent Michael!
We love this photo of Buster wearing his army outfit with pride as he salutes our troops abroad. We were blown away by all of the support that the pug community showed Michael and Buster, and we know he is too – way to go guys!
Sara’s Furball Watson!
Watson is dressed to the nines, looking dapper in his blue bow tie and American flag cape – so photogenic. Watson, reporting for duty!
Arlene and her Barking Brigade!
We loved Arlene’s creativity as she rallies the troops to salute our country on the Fourth of July. Looking good pups!
Shelleen and pooch Waldo!
